Battle Royale Book Review
Ms. Cat
January 7, 2003
"Battle Royale" by Koushun Takami, is a gripping, intense socio-political novel in the tradition of "Brave New World" and "1984. ... "Battle Royale" is a thick book, with a lot packed inside. ... " If the government actually called it "Battle Royale," no one would have put up with it. ... It surprising that the book was not as well. ... For a translation from an Asian language, this book is surprisingly well-written. ... The book also delves into the psychological aspects of the story--how it affects the characters behavior and mindset as the game begins to quicken and become more competitive. Its a strong, solid, and terrifying book. ...
There are some major themes in this book which are hard to miss. The biggest one is the idea of trust, and its one that we all tend to learn when were around the age of the characters in this book. ...
There really is an intensity of emotion to this book, which is to be expected. ... However, as this is an alternate-reality setting, perhaps in the "Battle Royale" world kids grow up a little faster.
