Post impressionism
Paul Cezanne was born in Aix-en-Provence, a small town south of France. ... Cezanne is counted as one of the Post-Impressionists. Cezanne wanted "to make Impressionism into something solid and enduring like the art of museums". ...
The Post-Impressionist period wasnt so much an artistic label of its own but rather a group of artists way of furthering the Impressionist ways of painting. ... Many of the painters and their young followers were becoming dissatisfied with the limitations of the style and felt that too many traditional elements of picture making were being neglected as impressionism began to be hemmed into and had lost its sharp cutting edge and uniqueness. To quote Cezanne, he decided "to make of Impressionism something solid and durable, like the art of the museums". ... Although these artists and others in this period shared no common goal art history, written after their deaths, classified them as being Post Impressionists and not they themselves. All of these artists had accepted the Impressionist methods and never rejected the new and brighter palette, they didnt seek to undo the effects of Impressionism rather take it to a new level, thus making this period of art history a later stage of Impressionism.
