I would only partially agree with the above statement that emphasis on cost underestimate the importance of innovation as I too agree that emphasis on cost might also lead to innovation taking place.
Pros
In an attempt to reduce costs, firms would have ignored the importance of innovation. Firms have failed to understand the impact of adopting innovation; this might lead to the dangerous consequence of being "eliminated" by industry.
