hindu life cycle Student – 15 years old Today is my 15th birthday and I would like to talk about how I was introduced to my religion’s practices, rituals and festivals. Firstly, everything I learned about my religion is by observation and by taking part I rituals at home and in the temple. Secondly, I chant my mantra regularly after my daily prayers in the evening. I received my mantra last year when I went to visit my Guru. As my favourite deity is Ganesha, I asked for a Ganesh mantra. Thirdly, we have pujas at our house on religious occasions and other auspicious days. Also I wanted to start meditating and my Mom said it would be hard and I’m too young, but she let me try it out. It was extremely hard; I couldn’t concentrate at all. So, me and my mom both decided on me starting to meditate when I am older. The two best days of the whole year are Diwali and Holi and those are the only festivals I look forward to every year. During Diwali, I get to set off fireworks, help my parents decorate the house with lights, greet the guests, give gifts and receive them too and also wear new clothes. The sweets are always excellent and the vegetarian dinners are mind-blowing. Holi, on the other hand, is lots more fun, especially squirting colored water on all my friends. Sweets and fabulous dinners are essentials in all Hindu festivals.
