Even though, Great Britain is a representative part of the phenomenon called “Western Civilisation”, parts of Great Britain live in what one might call poverty. And even though this poverty isn’t measurable with the poverty in other countries, we see a powerful contrast between the people of Great Britain. “Educating Rita” is written by Willy Russell and herein he treats some of the issues that might occur in these conditions. Rita is a twenty-six-year-old, brash, earthy hairdresser, married to a Liverpudlian beerdrinker who demands her to have his children and to be a good wife. She feels unsatisfied with her marriage. At the hairdressing salon where she works, she gets tired of daily listening to women who talk a lot without saying any important. "They never tell y’things that matter.” this results in that she comes to experience a so-called identity crisis, wherein she doesn’t know which class she belongs in. This theory is supported by the fact that she feels that her mentality doesn’t fit the mentality of the working class. This is seen at page 8 in the lines 37-43: “I’ve been realizin’ for ages that I was, y’ know, slightly out of step. (…) See, I wanna discover meself first.
