“Disabled” is a poem that is written from the point of view of a man who was terribly wounded during World War I and is now crippled, forced to live out the rest of his life in a nursing home. He lives on with no legs and only half an arm. Before the man decided to join the army he lived a very full life. He was very sporty and says: “After the matches, carried shoulder-high.” He was very popular and was clearly a sporting hero. He could also turn heads with his handsome looks, for which many women fell, his looks helped him to win adulation from all. “There was an artist, silly for his face,” The reason he joined the army is because he possessed a fatal flaw; he was very vain and thought only of how good he would look “Someone had said he’d look a god in kilts.” And people agreed with him.
