Cold Mountain Essay
In most books, the characters and the setting go hand in hand, and play an equally important role in the book. However in Cold Mountain, it seems to me that the setting overshadows the characters. The setting in Cold Mountain becomes more important than the characters because, the characters interact just as much with nature and the land, as they do with other characters, the historical events surrounding the area at the time, and because whole book is basically based upon the thought of a man returning to his home setting.
In Cold Mountain, the characters interact with the land just as much as they do with one another. ... People in Cold Mountain are also adamant about their crops, as they would have to be since they are for the most part self-sufficient.
