The heroes are superior leaders who fight for justice and peace within Paragon, protecting the citizens from villains (anti-heroes), who seek money, power and political advantage. Heroes take on a quest, and on completing, gain fame, recognition, glory and admiration (in the form of points). Each hero has a weakness - often the danger harnessing his success. The heroes are brave, confident and determined - admired by the average citizen, and representing cultural values of Paragon. Visual language used helps to depict the image of a hero. Appendix A is a typical image from the site showing a darkened background and spotlighted figures. This places emphasis on the heroes, and their enhanced strength and power. Images are composed from a lowered angle in relation to the figures, forcing the responder to “look up” to the hero. The hero appears superior and greater that the average human. The site also features heroes in bright, bold colours and antiheroes in darker shades. The bright metallic costumes imply that the characters are the ‘good guys’, by provoking ‘happy’ and positive emotions associated with bright colours.
