Anyone who knows something about baseball knows that it takes a good amount of strength to be able to hit a baseball over 400 feet. Then again, myself at five foot eight 150 pounds has been able to hit a ball that far at least a number of times over my 17 years of playing the games. Now to do this 73 times with a wooden bat while a pitcher is throwing over 90 miles per hour in a single season is absolutely ludicrous. In fact, up until 1998, only 3 players had reached the 50 home run mark in a single season. Since then players such as Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Barry Bonds have all eclipsed the 60 home run mark easily, even passing 70! Players in todays game are consistently hitting 50 home runs every year. Last year two players recorded over 50 home runs, and the year before four players hit over 50 home runs along with three others that hit 49. The numbers are extremely alarming and I feel that while everyone loves to see big offensive numbers, these numbers are not coming from talent alone, yet also from massive strength and muscle developing unnaturally. Not only is it unfair to those who came before these drugs were available, but also to those who do not use these drugs and build muscle the hard way.
