...eracy. Irony is a contradiction of an expected event. In this story, there are many examples of irony throughout it. When the people went to help rescue the others on the steamboat and ended up going to the steamboat to be saved, was an example of irony. This is ironic because they were suppose to save the people on the steamboat, but they actually had to be saved at the steamboat. Exaggeration was also one the techniques that added to the humor to the story. When someone overly describes something, it is exaggeration. In this story it contributed quite a lot to the humor of the story. An example from this story is when everyone started to panic when the boat started to sink, but it actually was only sinking six feet. Everyone overly exaggerated how much the boat was sinking Lastly one of the techniques he used was a paradox. An apparent contradiction that, upon deeper analysis contains a degree of truth, is the definition of a paradox.
