Stem cell reasearch
...rtant potential application of human stem cells is the generation of cells and tissues that could be used for cell-based therapies. There are donated organs and tissues which are often used to replace ailing or destroyed tissue, but the need for transplantable tissues and organs far outweighs the available supply. As a result, scientists can now carry out experiments aimed at determining the mechanisms underlying the conversion of a single, undifferentiated cell, the fertilized egg, into the different cells comprising the organs and tissues of the human body. Although it is impossible to predict the outcomes, scientists and the public will gain immense new knowledge in the biology of human development that will likely hold remarkable potential for therapies and cures. Stem cell research in my opinion is ethical and worth while because of the fact that they are helping and healing the sick. They are using technology to improve the quality of life for those that suffer from treatable diseases. There is the highly controversial issue of killing unborn babies for these stem cells because it is not right to take away someone’s life but they are saving lives as well. It is even debatable wither these embryos are babies or not because they never had the chance to grow. After more research on the issue I realized that it’s defiantly worth it. It is not right to sacrifice one life in order to save others but in the long run if 100 lives can be improved it is worth it.
