Document 1 states that Stalin felt that Ivan the terrible and Peter the Great didn’t cut off enough heads, therefore suggesting that Stalin felt he had to prove he was more powerful than anyone had ever been. Though he was causing all of the terror, Stalin claimed he had no idea what was going on. In Document 11 it says that a theater director said “ they conceal it from Stalin.” The terror that Stalin created was fairly widespread. In Document 12 it talks about the very sudden decline in the population of the Ukraine all of a sudden. It says how the people just mysteriously vanished to nowhere. Document 15 talks about how propaganda from the USSR had reached far west all the way to France and Germany. Document 18 says how great of a tragedy this was even in the shadow of what Hitler was doing at the same time. Documents 6,7,and8 all talk about what the reaction of all of the Soviet Union was at the time of all of the terror. All of these Documents contain information about how there was panic throughout the nation, and how most people did know what was going on but did not want to admit how bad it really was. Some even talked of how they would like to wear the uniform of the other side to make it all stop.
