Spanking- Does it lead children to become more violent?

...to misbehave, they can take firmer action, such as taking away a favorite toy or even a “blanky” or “teddy”. Firmly explaining what the child has done and why it is wrong is usually enough. If not, there are less violent punishments for a child. In addition to using less violent punishments, a parent should know that the lessons children learn in the first few years set the pattern for the rest of their lives. What is meant by this is if a child is continually or even occasionally swatted on the butt by his/her parents, that child will grow to think or maybe get the misconception that it is o.k. to hit other people. And, if the parents disciplined their children with less violent punishments and sat down with them to explain what was wrong and not to do it again, the child wouldn’t feel intimidated and more likely to listen without being frightened. Less violent punishments are is also good because spanking emotionally confuses children, teaching them that anger allows people to hit others, even loved ones. I can confess to this because I know a couple that spanks their children.
