Therefore, corrupting the youth would go against that, because surely the Gods don’t want the youth corrupted, making it an impious action. Socrates is accused of corrupting the youth by teaching them, but he says on page 35, “I have never been anyone’s teacher. If anyone, young or old, desires to listen to me when I am talking and dealing with my own concerns, I have never begrudged anyone, but I do not converse when I receive a fee and not when I do not.” So, Basically he is saying that if people want to listen to him he is not going to send them away, but he doesn’t accept or want money from them, he doesn’t even care whether people listen to him or not. How can someone corrupt the youth when they don’t even realize they are doing it? What makes this argument strong is that all through the Apology Socrates is consistent in his argument. He never once backs down and he truly believes what he is saying. He explains it to the jury in a way that even I can understand, there is no possible way he can be the only person corrupting the youth and how could he be corrupting the youth when they are willing to listen and there are no witnesses or family of the victims to speak against Socrates.
