Other programs that help the individual that fall under the category of social welfare would consist of Medicare/Medicaid, food stamps, child development programs (WIC), and the all to well known welfare checks. Today in the news when we hear about social welfare it usually consists of the most recent talks in congress concerning a surplus, or the presidents proposals for Medicaid/Medicare as well as the ongoing debate to one day privatize the industry.
