...s pinned with a horrible reputation. The image of a pot smoking, destructive teenager who scares old ladies in the park was stubbornly pinned on anyone with a board. However, the media is trying to reverse this image due to growing popularity of the sport. Oh yeah, don’t forget the millions of dollars they can make by putting a skateboarder in every commercial and on every product they make. That being said, it is making the nation accept skateboarding as a sport instead of a crime. Today, skateboarding is the most popular sport among young Americans. I’m not sure about Canadians; they might not have caught on as well. How well a skater does in competition is what sets them apart from their brothers (or sisters) of the board. Most competitions today are on vert ramps, halfpipes with extended vertical sections, or courses modeled after real street obstacles called street courses. While vert competitions tend to be more popular, the street competitions have a more loyal fan base. Some international and even worldwide competitions are held hosting these events.
