Breathing is very important in singing, because if you don’t take the necessary breaths, you won’t be able to sing on key, or for that matter you won’t have the air needed to sing. If you fail to do this, you can create several problems, for one you can sound very choppy, meaning the audience can hear each gasp of air that you are taking , which to other singers, and performers looks tremendously unprofessional. Once you have practiced well enough to where you feel its, time perform you have now to work on your stage presence. When performing you should always remember 3 key things: 1). the words to the song. 2) Breathing 3) the melody or the pitch of the song. This is like a little reminder, to your self that should be running through your mind, it’s important because these are the most common things forgotten when performing. Another thing is to always look, like you are actually enjoying what you are singing, and doing. The audience is not going to enjoy, and get involved in your performance, if you are not smiling, and putting enthusiasm in what you’re singing. When you are performing your job is not just to sing a song or dance. Your job is to make the audience visualize what it is you are singing about. So if you are singing about your dearest love leaving you, and your begging her to stay, you want to put the audience right there, they should see you crying begging her to stay as she slowly drifts away in the sun light. All this by the way you are singing. You are a story teller in a sense. If you achieve this tool, you will have the audience in the palm of your hand. Also make sure you use your stage space. This means take advantage of your surroundings, you have a huge space why not use it. This is also a good technique to gain the interest of your audience.
