Should students be checked attendance daily?

Many students are reluctant to express their ideas and verbally contribute to class discussion. Therefore, requiring attendance only coerces these students to show up, not open up. In addition, rather than increasing the quality of class discussion, these students may become " class troublemakers", disturbing the rest of the class and insulting lecturers by nosily chatting with each other or sleeping in class. Also, the second justification that attendance requirements would make students study better does not hold water. Firstly, unlike high-school students, university students are all grown-ups, they should learn to suffer the consequences of their behaviors, including earning poor grades on tests, homework because of poor attendance.
