Holmes answered it “James I haven’t seen you in almost seven years.” James relied “has it been that long?” Holmes answered “well what bring you to our business, just paying a visit or what?” “I am afraid business; well I would like to tell you and Watson at the same time.” Oh let me go and get him.” Well he returned with Watson and they had there Hello’s and all sorts of greetings then they got down to business. Haddingway told his story but did not tell them what he had lost. He was testing the two to see if they could figure out what it is just by telling the story. Watson said, “I know what you lost is Gold and it has diamonds.” “How do you know that?” “Well there is a peace of gold on your shoe which indicates it is gold, also there is a diamond stuck in the bottom of you other shoe.” “Remarkable” Haddingway said. So will you take the case James asked?” Holmes gave him a look, one that immediately said no, but to Haddingway’s surprise Holmes answered “we shall take the case”. Haddingway said his goodbyes and told him the location of his house and that they could come tomorrow to investigate. When Haddingway got home he did some investigating of his own. Betsy and Wadsworth were there he asked them what had happened to the egg but they said the last time they saw it was with Mr. Haddingway the truth of the matter is Haddingway believed them because there were such loyal and nice employees. James said to himself I am tired and it was been a long day so I will retire to bed now. Betsy and Haddingway said goodnight. James thought one more thing, “Where were you two today anyways?” They answered we were at the market buying food and supplies for the house sir we has left early.” James replied “very well, goodnight” He went to bed and the egg was still not there when he went to his room. So he fell asleep. He woke up the next morning to the sound of creaking noises in his room. Haddingway opened his eyes and to his surprise it was Holmes and Watson. Holmes said “we want to get an early start”, they examined the place and said” do you notice anything different then yesterday. James said “Yes!” My prize portrait of the Queen is gone. They asked, “Does anyone have a key to this room besides you?” “Yes Betsy and Wadsworth.” Watson said, “We shall have to speak with them. Haddingway agreed and Holmes and Watson went down the steps to question the two employees. When they got down there everything seemed to be in order. Watson questioned Betsy and Holmes Wadsworth. There was something revealing about there story’s. Wadsworth new nothing his story did not change. But Betsy knew something. Betsy had said that she was in the room cleaning the mantle where the prize egg lay. She had hit it and it fell on the floor not breaking but being damaged James had noticed before. She put it back thinking no one would notice but obviously Haddingway did notice. Also she said her key is missing to James Haddingway’s bedroom.
