When the main character’s judgement was passed he closed his eye’s when a cross cut takes place showing the courts overwhelming authority which over powered him in the end by sentencing him to a prison. A blank screen changes the location and introduces the new authority ‘Shaw Shank Prison’. A new main character is introduced as this new main character goes to apply for parole the authority of the prison is stamped in giving it an insensitive, distrustful appearance which was emphasised by the synchronous sound of the rejection stamp which echoes the unforgiving and authoritarian manner of the wardens and prison officials. When the first main character approaches the prison a bird’s eye view of the prison inmates indicates their inferiority and how they have been consumed by the prison system. When the first main character entered Shawshank the view of all the prisoners packed up against the fence’s using a high angled shot shows his inferiority amongst his new inmates, which represent a new authority to which he must abide.
