...tor and writer of plays, narrative poems and sonnets - by 1592 he was already famous and popular as a playwright and actor though it is not known where he had been trained as an actor - in 1594 he joined a company of actors called the “ Lord Chamberlain’s Company” who performed together in the “Theatre” at Shorditch - due to the plague it was not allowed to play acting within the city walls - the troup was under protection of Lord Chamberlain himself who was able to give orders to the Master of Revels who is a person that arranged and paid all kinds of entertainment and was able to cencor and to approve plays - Richard Burbage, John Heminge and Henry Condell (members of the “Chamberlain’s Men”) later published the First Folio of Shakespeare’s plays - he was the most important actor and shareholder until he retired from the company in 1611 - in 1598 the lease of the land on which the theater stood expired, so the chief shareholders of the company decided to pull it down and to rebuilt it to the Globe Theatre just across London Bridge by mostly using The Theatre’s timber. - as a shareholder of the company he took a share of the entrance money of the Globe Theatre - in 1613 the Globe Theatre burned down; until then Shakespeare’s plays were performed there and attracted the audience (lower class and upper class) - the Chamberlain’s Men were designated by the new king James I as the “King’s Men” in 1603 and were the most famous company of actors in London - Shakespears contibuted to the fame by writing two plays per year - on account of his membership he earned a lot of money which was not usual for playwrights in those days - from the money he had made as an actor, playwright and shareholder of the company he was able to buy land in Stratford - in 1611 he retired and left London - in 1608 the Blackfriars’ monastery was converted into a theatre - The King’s Men used Blackfriars as in indoor theatre for performing plays during winter months - The Kings Men designed special plays for the small and more refined audience in Blackfriars - in 1613 he then retires from the stage - he spent his last years in Stratford - the cause of his death is unknown - he was burried at the eastern end of Holy Trinity Church at Stratford Kinds of Literature - 13 Comedies - 13 Historical Plays - 6 Tragedies - Tragi...
