...g toward the families of the victims? Or are these vendors, photographers and journalists just money hungry? One year after the terrorists’ attack on the World Trade Towers and Washington D.C., America remembers all that has happened just one short year ago. Remembering our heroes and our dead was very important to us all. September 11th is a very special day in history and everyone acts a little nicer or hugs their loved ones just a little bit tighter today. Attending vigils in the place that you live was a very common thing to do. But while you were in your deepest moment of remembrance, did you happen to notice the people around you? Did you see the people selling September 11 items? T-shirts, candles, and photo albums were being forced upon those who wished to attend this gathering to grieve. Instead of being able to remember the day and to express your personal feelings with your close friends and family, you were pestered to buy items that “commemorate” today’s date or maybe you experienced what I did and you were video taped in your time is mourning. For me personally, I found the greatest satisfaction and relief in knowing that I had helped out and contributed to the efforts in support of September 11. I made my contribution by helping with a blood drive that ran that whole week. After working the blood drive with friends, we headed over to the UCF reflection pond for a vigil. I was not surprised that there were shirts and candles for sale when I arrived, but I was shocked when I realized that the whole event was going to be videotaped. I felt so violated that my friends and I were going to be televised in our lowest moments of grief. It truly made me evaluate my own perception of the day.
