Someone comes knocking at his door, and he is immediately stricken with fear that it might be a ghost. He is so scared that his heart skips a beat and he can not stop repeating the line “’Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door.” He finally opens the door, but there’s no one there. This makes the story even creepier. This page-turner quality possessed by Poe’s poetry keeps the reader begging for more. Dickinson’s style varied greatly from Poe’s yet it still did not lack any luster. It is her unique style that differentiates her from any other American poet. The paramount characteristics of her style are her eccentric use of punctuation and capitalization and conciseness of most of her lines and stanzas. Her poetry at first glance seems short and devoid of meaning. However when put under the microscope it becomes lucid that her poetry is not meant to be taken literally.
