Lackawanna Historical Society The Lackawanna Historical Society was created in 1886, in order to preserve history of the people of Scranton and the development of the city. Over the years it has collected various public works, documents, maps, and artifacts. It is now known as one of the region’s best source of historical references. In 1943, a former banker of the area named George H. Catlin, donated his home to the society. Since then, the turn-of-the-century house serves as the home to the various exhibits, lectures and research programs. The Society is a valuable resource to the area as a keeper of vital history of the area. It is constantly being updated and will always be the number one source of any information on Scranton.
