...se the water had a lower boiling point than the distilled water. - How does sugar affect the boiling point of water? The sugar seemed to make the water speed up its boiling point because the water had a lower boiling point than the distilled water. - Does salt affect the boiling point of water more than sugar does? Yes because the salt water boiling point was 1 degree C less than sugar. Problem: What are the boiling points of sugar and salt water over distilled water. Statement of Hypothesis: It will take more heat to make the sugar water boil than salt water. Materials: -Bunsen burner -Ring stand -Goggles -Beaker -Wire gauze -Sugar -Salt -thermometer -Stirring Rod -Striker Experimental Procedure: 1. Set up ring stand and burner. 2. Fill a beaker with distilled water. 3. Put wire gauze on ring. 4. Place the beaker on top of the ring stand. 5. Turn on gas, and light using the striker. 6. Adjust flame so it is hitting the bottom of the beaker. 7. Heat up water until it is boiling. 8. Use thermometer to record temperature of water. 9. Fill another beaker up with saturated sugar water. 10. Repeat steps 7 and 8. 11. Fill another beaker with saturated salt water. 12. Repeat steps 7 and 8. 13. Clean up lab area.
