Although I did not write a proper prediction (I did not write the physical states for the products that I predicted), I did predict that you can tell that a double displacement reaction occurred if a precipitate was formed or a gas was produced. I also predicted that when the reactants are mixed and come in contact with each other, if the product is insoluble, then the product is a precipitate. As we discovered during the investigation, all of the reactions in Table A produced a precipitate. For the reactions in Table B, I did predict that a gas would be produced in each situation, and our results support my prediction. In the first reaction involving Na CO and Hcl, carbon dioxide gas was produced, as I predicted. This is known because when a flamming splint was inserted into the test tube after the reaction had occured, the flame extinguished, indicating the presence of carbon dioxide gas. In th...
