Usually the student ends up slacking in school and their grades begin to drop. This is because after about seven hours of school, they go to work for another three, six, or seven hours, then come home around nine or ten at night and start feeling the wear and tear the day has provided them. The exhausted student may have other plans and disregard their number one priority, which is their schoolwork. Around the same time teenagers start working, they start driving and now that they have money, they are able to save up for a car of their own. This is another responsibility the student has, and what should be the student’s main concern, school, is now one of their lower priorities. Their main focus now having a nice car, would be to go out with a bunch of friends and work. Even though there are problems with having an after school job, there are still good things about it. An after school job teaches more responsibility and helps a teenager mature as young adults. While around the age of sixteen, when a student usually starts working, they are also beginning to think about their future and college opportunities. A job in high school not only helps students save up for college, but gives them a head start on their future career. For example, a student might get an after school job as a receptionist in a doctor’s office.
