This centralizing back up technique eliminates the manual effort of writing and delivering physical tapes from multiple server sites by remotely locating the back up storage equipment to a centralized and safe location. The system also offers any-to-any server and storage connectivity over great distances enabling consolidation of storage resources that are shared by multiple servers at the other network locations. The company saved a great amount of capital through maximizing utilization of storage resources and reducing operational costs through the centralization of the IT staff at a single storage location. The success of the project was measured in four categories: Time, Accuracy, Reliability and Scalability. A decrease in time, required to deliver log transfers, was almost immediately noted, as well as the ability to generate reports accurately. Where before with using the previous storage system, log transfers would frequently be late in delivery due largely to information needing to be gathered from multiple locations. Accuracy has also heavily improved. Utilizing the prior system, information would be missing from log transfers causing inaccurate reporting to the customer.
