...n load of all time. It would carry four men and one woman. As the ship took off Sally’s Dream was coming true. She looked out the window and watched Earth move slowly away. When the Challenger was in full orbit it would make a complete circle around the Earth every 90 minutes. Sally’s complete voyage lasted six days. She spent those six days in a comfortable temperature of about 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Sally’s question of total weightlessness was answered. It was loads of fun! She also discovered that preparing food was very difficult while floating around in space. Any food particles or water droplets that got away could land on and damage expensive equipment so they made sure they were careful. Sally Ride is our hero. She demonstrates most of the pillars of character education in her career. Courageous is a word that describes Sally Ride very well. Can you imagine braving it through years and years of training for space? Also, she went into space! That takes a ton of courage and bravery! Do you have enough courage to do that? Just imagine six days hovering with no gravity, having to operate heavy duty machinery and having four other lives in your hand! That takes so much courage, and that is something Sally possesses. Responsibility is a trait that defines Sally Ride’s demeanor. I would not trust an irresponsible person operating a space craft! Would you? She also had the responsibility of watching out for four other people. Successfully completing NASA’s training course takes a great deal of responsibility. She did that, and then traveled to space numerous times. Wow! Can you imagine a more committed person than Sally Ride? She had to commit herself to years of training.
