Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead

...r a few minutes of complete confusion between the two, Rosencrantz understands, "Oh! You mean - you pretend to be him and I ask you questions!"(p. 48). Even after this practice of their conversation with Hamlet, Hamlet was able to "make us look ridiculous" (Ros p. 56). Besides confusing each other, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern often ponder random thoughts. Once they were thinking about death and being trapped inside a box forever and how "Eternity is a terrible thought." These two men are just regular people who are doing what they are told, while at the same time having a good time. Stoppard's play is considered to be brilliant because he changed the point of view of a well-known play excellently. Throughout Stoppard's play there were often sections of the original Hamlet that connected the two stories extremely well. Some of Hamlet's most famous quotes were included such as: · "You cannot take from me anything that I will more willingly part withal - except my life, except my life, except my life." · "I am but a mad north north-west; when the wind is southerly I know a hawk from a handsaw." · "I say we'll have no more marriage! Those that are married already all but one shall live, the rest shall keep as they are. To a nunnery, go." Stoppard did a great job of showing Hamlet's tragic story from the point of view of two men who get caught up in this tragedy and have no way out. Because the two plays are connected so well a new dimension and a behind the scenes look is given to Hamlet. "Very chilling." The New York Times says about Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. This play is chilling because in Shakespeare's Hamlet you are not able to see how these two men are so clueless and trapped in a situation that there is no way out of. In the end, when they realize that the letter to the King of England has been changed to kill them, it's terrible because they know that their fate is now certain death. Also, after their conversation with Hamlet, they miss all of the warnings that are given to them to get out of Denmark. These men are not very smart. If they were smart then they would have been able to detect Hamlet's indicat...
