Roe vs. Wade
...mbryo. At issue is George Bush’s continued push for anti-abortion legislation. He is in a position right now to nominate extremely conservative Justices to the Supreme Court, which could possibly overturn Roe vs. Wade if it were to come before the Court. As is Bush has already appointed over 100 anti-abortion supporters to federal, district, and appellate courts. These particular interest groups feel that Bush is actively trying to deny women their natural right for control over their bodies, control over their reproductive rights. They feel protecting these rights protects women from potentially harming their bodies by going to underground facilities that are unsanitary or even trying to perform abortions themselves. This year was the thirtieth anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, January 22nd, 2003 and we have an election year coming up. The groups mentioned would like to show their support of Roe vs. Wade and reproductive rights at the polls by electing a Democrat or someone sympathetic to their cause. For the other side, those who would like to see Roe vs. Wade overturned, those supporters include groups like National Right to Life, Feminists for Life, National Coalition for Life and Peace, Americans United for Life, and members of Pro-Life. These are just some of the national organizations, listed here and above. These particular groups are pushing for Roe vs. Wade to be overturned. They do not support such things as embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, RU-486 pill, and abortion. Adoption is heavily promoted within these groups. Their stance is that Roe vs. Wade “cheapens human life”. That abortion is just a quick way out for people who become pregnant and are inconvenienced by their pregnancy. They also feel that women, and men, are escaping their responsibilities as mothers and fathers and blame non-marital sex for the increase in abortions. Pro-Life supporters believe that abortion clinics are lucrative practices that are not responsible for the health of the mother or any botched abortions. Stating that abortion doctors want to do as many abortions as possible to make as much money possible. These groups supported George W. Bush when he was campaigning for office of the President. They feel he owes his election to the Pro-Life community and their supporters. As of late, however, they have become increasingly upset at his support of federal funding for embryonic stem cell research on “embryos that have already been destroyed.” Bush did not make a decision regarding the stem cell research until eight months into his presidency. Allowing for 30 new lines of embryos, embryos that originally would have been exempt from research, to be included in the funding. They also do not like the fact that he supports pregnancy terminations if they happened out of rape or incest or to protect the mother’s health. Pro-Lifers, in contrast to the fears of Pro-Choicers, do not believe that Bush has enough acumen to select nominees for the Supreme Court that will help tip the scales to overturning Roe vs. Wade. I am a supporter of the Pro-Choice movement. Reading the material from the ten or so we...
