Rip van Winkle character anyalsis
...me life was different for Rip. Rip had a wife and kids and certain responsibilities came from having a family. Rip’s wife was a controlling person who demanded of Rip’s time, but Rip never disappointed his wife as he truly loved her with all of his heart. Rip was honest to his family and cared deeply for the well being of the Van Winkle family. Over time Rip’s controlling wife began to get under his skin. By all means Rip is not a violent man, and would never intentionally hurt anyone, let alone one of his family members. So when ever possible Rip would want to get out of the house and roam around town. Rip’s usual release from life came from Derrick Van Bummel and Nicholas Vedder, as all three of them would sit in front of the local motel and just talk. Rip also got a release from life from his dog Wolf. Rip and Wolf were inseparable and each of them dreaded the time they spent at home in front of the wife. Over time, things became worse for Rip. Rip’s commanding wife became more restricting on Rip and he needed to get away from home. Rip was extremely good with controlling his anger around his wife. Rip didn’t storm out of the house and make a scene. Rip calmly walked out with Wolf by his side and headed for the woods. Rip and Wolf occasionally go to the woods, but this trip proved to be vastly different then any other. Rip and Wolf began to explore the terrain around them and ended up loosing track of time. Day became night and just as soon as Rip and Wolf were descending down the mountain, Rip herd a voice call his name. They stopped and herd the noise again. Rip began to slowly see an image of a person walk out of the dark night shadows. Being the helping and loving guy Rip is, he slowly walked over to see what was going on. At this point, I could easily tell that Rip’s decision to converse with this individual was going to change his life forever. Rip met up with this mysterious man and decided to follow him back up the mountain. The old mysterious man was carrying a keg on his back and being the nice guy that Rip was, he aided the old man back to his home. Not a word was said and when they reached their final destination, Rip was surrounded with other men who looked just like the man with the keg on his back. Rip then proceeded to drink from the keg and before he knew it, he was passed out on the same hill from where he and Wolf sat the day before. The only catch was that it wasn’t the day before. As a reader I could tell at this point in the story that something out of the norm just happened to Rip. I think the author wanted the reader to perceive it as a bad situation. If one truly understands Rip, then one obviously knows that Rip does not identify any situation as harmful. If a situation threatens Rip then he just simply walks away and cools off. Rip is the kind of guy who believes that everything happens for a reason. Rip is a guy who goes about his business with no complaints and that’s how he lives his life. Rip wakes up and is shocked to find Wolf gone and his gun to be all rusted over. He is immediately confused and he heads down the mountain towards the village. Once he arrives to the village, he is shocked to see that the town has completely changed. There are more people with new and improved homes and markets. Rip ponders awhile, then goes to scratch his face and finds a beard that has grown a foot long. As of right now the reader should realize that Rip has slept a significantly large amount of time and that he is about to encounter some shocking news. Rip is the kind of fellow who is not afraid of shocking news...
