reverse culture shock
...g of clamouring classmates, or else tough luck. that was a snapshot of 1976 of how we lived back then in the counrty of Lebanon. Towards the end of that year I received the shock of my life when my family immigrated tothe United States of America. Sudenly I found myself in a little Oregon city. I still remembered that first morning when I looked around and saw no living creatures visible in my neighborhood. I no longer heard the sound of Om Ali calling across the balcony to Om zooheir to cme over for a coffee. All i saw was single homes surrounded by gree yards, and no shops in sight. no longer could I visit the little shop od abu Hassan. After many years of living in America I found myself back in Lebanon. I felt the same old shock all over again. where is that green yard??? where is the shopping mall? I was now suffering from reverse culture shock. Life and the way we lived it has changed in a thousand ways. Culture shock is an easy phrase to use but not easy to deal with. the feeling of frustration...
