It relived some anger for the time being, but shortly after I grew guilty and popped the tires on my own bike. I ended up having to pay for both of the flat tires; being young this took me quite awhile to pay off. Although the revenge was calming at the beginning by dampering my anger, the end results were not worth the trouble. Revenge is a sudden impulse that causes you to do something irrational and sometimes hurtful. Jeremy Taylor says, “ Revenge ...is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion.” His idea is that once revenge has been taken, then it is an on going cycle where the revenge becomes harsher and more intense as it progresses. Hamlet, in the classic play by Shakespeare, desires revenge on his uncle for killing his father. Although his intentions are human and understandable, his plot to get revenge on his uncle ends in tragedy.
