Many theories claimed for the extinction of dinosaurs have been stated yet none have been proved. The first cause of the extinction of dinosaurs is titled the “Asteroid Theory.” Louis Alvarez proclaims “When the asteroid crashed into the earth a huge amount of dust was thrown into the atmosphere, blocking the sun’s rays. Diaz 2 This would stop photosynthesis causing the death of most plant life, meaning death for the herbivores due to lack of food. This in turn would devastate the carnivores in the food chain.” This is the most popular theory that is given in many evolution books. Yet this happened so long ago there has been no actual solid evidence that can help prove Louis’s asteroid theory. Another cause that has been speculated is called the “Ozone Depletion Theory.” DR M.L Keith professor of geo-chemistry at Pennsylvania State University states “Volcanic gases could have depleted the upper atmospheres protective ozone layer. Base-skinned creatures such as dinosaurs would have been particularly vulnerable to the ultraviolet radiation.” This theory is not so popular as compared to the asteroid theory.
