Reparations a Solution?

Today black couples make 80% of what white couples make, there is still a problem. Reparations cannot solve that problem. Immediate economic restitution will create not only a scramble in the black community but it may be a divisive factor as well. The black community, though different in its own right in many ways from aspects of American culture, cannot set itself apart from other communities in this manner. An immediate solution especially with those uneducated to the process of keeping money and not spending money will only improve the American economy, as there will be more money spent but their lives will not improve and if there is it is a marginal temporary improvement. There has to be a psychological change in the way people, African people and other American people alike, view the issues of slavery and its impact in 2002. It is appalling that 90% (San Jose Mercury News, March 22, 2002) of most white Americans perceive that our nation is now equal and everybody has an equal opportunity now. ...
