The modes were reduced to major and minor key. Vocal and instrumental music were of equal importance. In the late period, tonality was fully established. Vocal music was dominated by instrumental music InRenaissance music Harmony was the master of the word. In Baroque music, word is the master of harmony. Baroque music has unique style and character. Composers wrote music specifically for particular medium, such as violin or the solo voice, Rather than music with interchangeable or with out any styles or characters that might be either sung or played by almost any instruments. When compared with Renaissance music, Baroque music is highly ornate more texturized, and intense. Composers expressed emotions and feeling in their composition. One of the characteristics of the Baroque era was the importance on contrast of volume, texture, and pace in the music, and the renaissance music did not have these elements. Baroque music broke away from early Renaissance style with new emphasis on the use of vocal and instrumental color. During the Renaissance period church was the center of music, vocal music had been dominating and the instrumental music had been written for any instruments. After 1600 violin became the main instrument and developed its idioms. Renaissance music was so strict and structured and learn by academic training. The new concept, Braque music style was the opposite. It was unstructured and full of expressions. (Dorak) Guillaume DuFay was born around Cambrai in northern France in 1400 and he died on November 27, 1474. He spent his youth as a choirboy at the Cambrai Cathedral church. Nicolas Malin, the magister puerorum of the Cathedral, influenced him. Dufay never had any formal training. He learned the art of composing through performing under these men, copying music for the church, and older musicians. (Dufay 674-81) He lived in Cambrai until he entered the service of the Malatesta family in Pesaro around 1420. When he returned back to Cambrai in 1426 he became a singer in the papal choir. During this time he became one of the most important musicians of his day .In his lifetime, Dufay wrote complete masses, individual Mass movements, Magnificants, hymns, motets and chansons. (Prince) ¡®¡¯Kyrie¡± from¡±Missa ¡®Homme arme¡± by Guillaume DuFay. Missa L ¡®homme arme is DuFay¡¯s most extended work. It was one of the masses he wrote in 1450¡¯s.Kyrie was the longest of his cycles and included several ambitions technical feats. The opening of the Mass L¡¯ home arme points to a particularly characteristics features of the cycle. In the kyrie of L ¡®homme arme the contra tenor is the added voice. L home arme is a monophonic melody in popular vein with text whose overtones are political and possible satirical. L ¡®homme arme was probably composed in 1463. Dufay¡¯s mass cycles were not necessarily composed in their playing order. The paired Gloria and Credo were composed first then the Sanctus and Agnus, and that the kyrie was composed at the end.
