...der of Mrs. Elaine Parker, Bacon's theory is played out like some gruesome movie. As in Bacon's idol of the theater, Mrs. Parker had her own idea of how life should have been. She had trust or distrust for people and places based on that premise. Mrs. Parker was a fifty-year-old widow whose son Joey was a convicted drug-user. She had a mistrust toward banks therefore she kept her $ 45,000.00 life savings taped to the back of her television set in her living room. Joey was the only other person who knew where the money was hidden. When a portion of the money was stolen, Joey became a likely suspect. Mrs. Parker called the police to report the crime. Officer Padgett responded to her residence and made a report. A week later when Mrs. Parker was found murdered in a parking lot and the rest of the money was missing, suspicion again fell upon Joey. However an intense police investigation proved that Officer Padgett and not Joey had committed the crime. The public was outraged. It seemed that Officer Padgett had played out the role of murderer and not the role the general public had bestowed on him. Mrs. Parker like the rest of society had trusted Officer Padgett therefore, carrying out his crime was easy for him. He was able to persuade Mrs. Parker to meet him in a secluded parking lot in the middle of the night.
