Reflective Writing
...the assignment then you would do it. But no. The laziness that I possessed at the beginning of the year was not that big of a problem, when it came to the journal entries. It was the fact that I just thought that if I knew what was going on in my head then why write it down on paper. I thought it was absolutely stupid, so I didn’t do nearly any of them for the rest of the quarter. Soon after the Life Story came the short stories. This is what I enjoyed doing and basically the reason I took the class. It is a shame that we didn’t get to write more short stories. Hopefully Mrs. Churchill will put more time forward that next year. Any ways back to the short stories. When we got the assignment it was just what I wanted, we got to make up characters and do with them what we please. I like being able to do what I want when I write. I think when you are given too strict a guide lines then that is when the student loses interest. So I didn’t have a problem doing this actually I rather enjoyed it. In between these bigger projects we would be given reading reactions. A reading reaction was when you had to read a portion of a book and then write a two page paper on the section that you read abiding to strict guide lines not going beyond them. You can imagine the problems I had with this one. The guide lines that were given were way too harsh. I don’t see why you couldn’t just write a summary for what you had read I thought all the other stuff on the two page criteria sheet was useless. So these also rarely got completed. The poetry unit was not as bad as I expected it to be. The only thing that bothered me with it was the movies of poets on some stage screaming about their personal tragedies and injustices and how the government is screwing us over. Wa, wa, wa, is what I had to say to that, to me that is not what poetry is about. I think poetry doesn’t have to do with complaining and whining yet it should have something to do with the reflection of the real you and things around you. This I think is why I did so well with the poems that I wrote and I plan on continuing to write more. My favorite poem that I wrote was the persona poem about Marshal Mathers (eminem). I felt that that was my best piece of poetry because I think eminem is one of the smartest song writers of our history. Eminem has changed the music industry in the matter of a few years than any other song writer has changed anything since the Beatles. For that I think he deserves the respect of anyone who enjoys good music from a person who cares not what others think of him and writes what he wants not what the public wants. But by far my favorite thing that we did in this class were the short stories. I ...
