When obstacles get in Odysseus' way he uses guile, wit, or one of the other characteristics he has to overcome them. Spiderman and Odysseus have many similar characteristics. For example, they are strong, brave, fictional and courageous. Spiderman shows strength, bravery, and courage when he saves Mary Jane from a bus that is falling off of the Golden Gate Bridge. Odysseus shows strength, courage, and bravery when he defeats the Cyclops. "Now Cyclops wheezing as the pain came on him..." (Book nine, Line 325). Another example of how similar Spiderman and Odysseus are is that they both fight off superhuman creatures. Odysseus fights off the Cyclops, and Spiderman fights off his nemesis The Green Goblin. Both of these creatures threatened their worlds and both Spiderman and Odysseus defeated them. Though Spiderman and Odysseus have many similar qualities they also have many differences. For example, no one knows of Spiderman's double personality whereas Odysseus shows only one side of himself to the world.
