When he finishes that subject, he tells Scout to go to bed, making it aware that he knew of her eavesdropping the entire time. She would not know untill later why he did that (85 - 89). Respect is something that is learned over time, usually as a small child though. A person raised in a proper community knows when, and to whom respect is served.
