...re planned. Acquaintance rape is one of the most common types of sexual assault and one the least understood. The attacker could be a good friend, a date, an acquaintance or even a spouse. Even if sexual intercourse has occurred between the two people prior to the rape, intercourse becomes rape when it is non consensual. There are even situations that when a minor child under the age of seventeen is involved that consensual sexual relations are considered rape or statuary rape. It is never the victims fault, even if alcohol or drugs are involved. Drugs and alcohol are often used as an accomplice to rape. The major motives for rape are anger, power, and domination, not sexual desire. The clothes a person wears or the way a person acts actually has very little to contribute to the reason they were raped. Being in a person’s house, in their car or on a date does not mean that sexual activity is wanted. Rape is an act of violence, not sexual gratification. No one deserves to be raped, not male or female. Most people grow up thinking that rape only happens to women. This is not true. Reports indicate that 250 women out of every 1000 women has been raped or sexually assaulted and one man out of every 1000 men has been raped in their lifetime.
