...hat was possible then. When he was 18 he graduated from Harvard University. For the next three years he taught in a school in Boston. In 1829 he became a minister of the Second Church of Boston. The same year he became minister, he married Ellen Tucker, who died 17 months later of tuberculosis. In 1932 Emerson resigned his pastorate. After that he gave lectures as a career. The first book was Nature, which was published in 1836. His second book was a two series book called Essays, published in 1841 and 1844, which contained essays written by Emerson on philosophy and other subjects. Another was Representative Man, published in 1850, that was a collection of lectures he had given. He later wrote books of his poetry including Poems, published 1847, and May-Day and Other Pieces, published 1867 are considered to be some of the most important poetry of the 19th century.
