...m being racist or sexist. Racism and sexism are defined as systems of advantage based on race and sex. Continually referring to ‘whites’ as the spawn of racism and males as the spawn of sexism is just plain wrong. Racist and sexist people exercise specific prejudices that they either learned or taught themselves. Racism and sexism are negative things; therefore someone has to benefit from them. That is just stating the obvious. However, saying that ‘whites’ are advantaged because of social indicators such as life expectancy and salaries is misleading. ‘Whites’ are looked down upon regularly because of these social advantages. Who really wants to be the hated race? How is that an advantage? Living a guilty and regretful life because you were randomly born a certain sex and race in a certain social class is meaningless. Then again, you can’t be too positive without the negative. Persons of any background can be racist. From the same viewpoint, anyone has the capability to be sexist or heterosexist. Saying that racism is for ‘whites’ only makes it a burden solely on the backs of white people. No one will agree with that. So why will they agree that only ‘white’ people benefit from racism according to the textbooks definition of a “system of advantage?” Ask yourself this question before you do or even think something. “What if everyone did it?” If everyone was a homosexual, how would we reproduce?
