... are moving slowly and in a daze, a person has more time to catch details. Moving slowly depicts how quickly things are really going and it does so in an emphasized manner. The dreamlike manner is an idea from which a person wants to think that the event isn’t happening, such as in dreams, where the dreams do not occur in real life. “…raise a rifle to his shoulder and pull the trigger, but watching all the time knowing that the gun was empty.”-p.211 This quote came from the second parallel at the ending of the trial. Scout is referring to her knowledge of knowing that her father is attempting a case that he will lose. The author, Harper Lee, uses this gun as a metaphor to compare shooting at the dog, but without a bullet. Since the bullet saves Maycomb from Peart 2 the dog but cannot save Tom Robinson because of the unfair jury, there is no bullet in the gun. This gun is probably aiming at the jury because Atticus wants to shoot down the racist jury to not only save Tom Robinson, but the entire Maycomb County from injustice. This injustice and the moral characteristic of Atticus is what keeps him in the practice of criminal law justifying why he would want to bring down the jury and prevail. “I saw something only a lawyers child could be expected to see…”-p.211(second parallel) Scout has been taught by her father that a jury’s eyes will reveal what verdict they will place on the defendant.(guilty or not guilty) Before the jury had even announced this, Sc...
