Quiz Show
... If I was Charles Van Doren and in that situation, I would have gone public with the information about it being rigged, therefore shutting down the show “Twenty One”. I would have got myself a strong lawyer in case of any lawsuits. This would have affected the outcome a lot because “Twenty One” and NBC would now be looked down upon, and people would never see them as the same again. I, being Charles Van Doren, would have come out of this a hero, instead of a low-life who cheated the system. Herbert Stimple was a person of conscience in the movie because of his pursuit to make sure that the show did not harm the innocence of any more people. Herbert was asked to take a dive by the show, because that was how it worked. When he was asked the question, many thoughts were going through his head such as if he should do it, what are the consequences, should he just answer the question, and is this morally right? He was faced with the decision that brought up his morals and his conscience. He was in fact given the answers, just like all of the other contestants, but after he was off the show, he vowed to get them back. He went to court and testified against “Twenty One” and Dan Enright, saying how he was choreographed to bite his lip, and stutter etc. Herb wanted to make sure that everyone knew what they were doing, and make sure that they were shut down. If I was Herbert Stimple, and in that situation, I would have answered the question correctly, and not taken the fall. Then, I would have announced live on the air that the show was rigged and everyone was given the questions. I would have gone home a famous and loved man. This would have affected the outcome of Charles Van Doren’s reign on the show, because it would have been forced to go off the air and everyone would have been fired. Then, Charles Van Doren would not have been the loved and cherished man that he became all because of the attention he was given from “Twenty One”. Dan Enright was not a person of conscience in the movie because he was the one who gave everyone the answers to the questions beforehand, so that they would do well on the show. He set it up for when a person was to win a lot of money, and when it was time for someone else to come on the show and win. Dan wants Herbert to sign a statement saying that he does not hold “Twenty One” responsible for anything that happened to him, when Dan knows that it was “Twenty One” that caused this whole catastrophe of lies. Enright knew in the back of his mind what was right; he just chose to ignore it. When Richard Goodwin, an investigator, comes to talk to Dan about Herb, he tells Goodwin that Herb used all his money on gambling, and on his medical bills for psychoanalysis. Enrigh...
