To play the piano you must have smooth movements so the song doesn’t sound choppy. Without the substantia nigra music would always sound like a scratched cd. The substantia nigra helps your fingers flow along with the music and the beat. The thalamus will be in charge of making sure he plays that piece he has never seen, like he has played it a million times. It will take the notes and interpret them and then relay the recognized notes to other parts of the brain so that he can carry out that particular action. The right cerebral cortex is the part of the brain that has functions more closely related to creativity. Rather than muscle control and interpretation of different types of information, the right side is involved with improvisational skills. The improvisation piece will take the retrieving of data already known (like notes) and making them into an original piece never played before, and one that might never be played exactly the same again.
