Prisons

...earn from their crime. It seems to me that criminals tend to go out and violate their parole or probation almost within a year of their release. In fact parole violations have jumped 50 percent between 1990 and 1999 (Horn). A reason for this might be because the parolee failed drug tests. By failing drug tests, the parolee proved he/she still couldn’t successfully interact with the rest of society. People who commit certain crimes should be sent to a different place that separates them from the rest of society. People who commit drug or alcohol crimes should be sent to a rehabilitation program instead of prison. Believe it or not our prisons do not rehabilitate our criminals. Our criminals some way or another gets their drugs. As one Atlanta prisoner says “Even in the hole, I’ve seen someone with $1,000 made up of $100 bills. The Department of Justice also reports violent crime arrests have also gone down from just 722,700 in 1990 to 675,900 in 1998. From ridding along with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department a lot I could tell you spouses, ex’s, enemies, etc. say stuff just to get back at some one. The police have to record that this took place because it their job and they have to. The crimes that supposedly took place still have to be entered into the Department of Justice database, which might explain the large inconsistency between reported and recorded crimes to the arrests. Prison is the best way to deal with violent offenders. Prison separates them from the rest of society. Prisons are meant to serve one purpose, keep the people who can’t cooperate with society separate from society. People in our society say, “that prison is the best way to deal with criminal because it influences people to not commit c...
