...d Diana first met at a party in 1977 when Sarah, Diana’s older sister, was going out with Charles. In February of 1981, Prince Charles proposed to Diana and she was only 19 years old. The wedding day was July 29, 1981; Diana had much doubt (Morton, Andrew). Their wedding was called “the wedding of the century” by the public. It took place in St. Paul’s Cathedral, and was said to be a fair tale and the best of all the royal weddings by the media. Charles and Diana appeared happy and in love, but the strain was taking it’s toll. Soon after Diana revealed her early signs of bulimia, due to the distrust in the marriage. Diana had said that Charles had carried pictures of his other love Camilla Parker-Bowles on the honeymoon, and dropped them in front of her by mistake (Morton, Andrew). Diana became pregnant within weeks of the wedding. Prince William Arthur Philip Louis was born on June 21, 1982. Diana’s eating disorder was kept under control for weeks while William was born. In September 15, 1984 Prince Harry was born. Diana brought a series of nannies to help raise her children, but made sure that she was the main influence and played a major role on their daily life. She took her sons to many normal, casual, very day places for fun and to lead a normal life. Examples of these places would be amusement parks, the movies, and so forth. Diana continually emphasized that her sons came first. (Diana Princess of Wales #3) The media, obsessed by the royal relationship, soon learned that is was beginning to crumble. Charles had been carrying photographs of Camilla Parker-Bowles, with Diana being well aware of it (Princess Diana #8). After William was born Charles carried out his public duties alone. Charles’ absences caused Diana to try a number of half-hearted suicide attempts (Diana Princess of Wales #3). During this period, Charles had arranged for Diana to see a psychiatrist. The year of 1986 was the breakdown of their marriage. Soon in 1989 Diana admitted to an affair publicly with Major James Hewitt (Princess Diana #8). “Diana: Her True Story” published the ruins of the marriage was made known. There was no hope of maintaining the illusion of a happy marriage. On December 9, 1992 the Prime Minister told Parliament that the Prince and Princess of Wales were to separate. On February 28,1996 Diana announced her decision to agree to a divorce legally. Within a few months on August 28,1996 a decree absolute was issued. Diana had won $26 million settlement, but at the cost of being stripped of her title “ Her Royal Highness”. (Princess Diana #8) In 1993 Diana had yet to find a new public role. Diana strove to have a private and normal life. The goal was to focus, and get her self together. It was hard to acquire a normal life because she was still constantly being chased by the media and being placed in the public eye. In August 1996 she pared down her public role further. She cut her involvement in more than 100 charities to 6. During this period Diana developed strong relationships and was determined to develop a more serious image. One strong relationship, which was developed in 1997, was between Diana and Dodi Fayed. Dodi Fayed was the son of an Egyptian millionaire who owns Harrods. Diana became a happier person and gained self-esteem, from this relationship.(Diana Princess of Wales #3) On August 31, 1997 Dodi and Diana were killed in a car accident while they were attempting to evade the Paparazzi.
