A lot of companies depend on revenue generated from sales of twisted pair cable. Also, a lot of upgrading and system overhaul would have to be done, and people would have to be trained in how to do it. This would take time, and be stressful to the people. They would have to handle learning how to implement the optical fibre. The higher bandwidth of optical fibre could also encourage more software piracy. It would be a lot easier to send a lot of data faster. The widespread implementation of long-range wireless networking would definitely make Cat5 network cable obsolete, as in the previous example. It could even replace some optical fibre....
